Basic infrastructure

Roads

In 2019, the length of the road network in Spain reached 165.443 kilometres, of which 17,377 kilometres corresponded to high-capacity roads.

Rail

15,632 kilometres made up the ADIF and ADIF-AV rail infrastructure network in 2021, of which 10,144 kilometres were electrified.

Air

46 airports and 2 heliports make up the Aena network, with 149,457 metres of expansion in 2021.

Sea

In 2021, the State-owned Port System was made up of 28 Port Authorities, which managed 389,983 linear metres of quays

Rolling stock

Roads

In 2019, the national vehicle fleet consisted of 34.434.791 vehicles, of which 134.898 were authorised for passenger transport and 488.649 for freight transport.

Technological capital

R&D and innovation

Companies in the transport and storage sector invested 47.6 million euros in R&D in 2021.
