Basic infrastructure


In 2019, the length of the road network in Spain reached 165.443 kilometres, of which 17,377 kilometres corresponded to high-capacity roads.


15.390 kilometres made up the ADIF and ADIF-AV rail infrastructure network in 2019, of which 9,816 kilometres were electrified.


46 airports and 2 heliports make up the Aena network, which had a total of 56 runways for aircraft take-off and landing, with 149.451 metres of expansion in 2019.


In 2019, the State-owned Port System was made up of 28 Port Authorities, which managed 385.062 linear metres of quays.

Rolling stock


In 2019, the national vehicle fleet consisted of 34.434.791 vehicles, of which 134.898 were authorised for passenger transport and 488.649 for freight transport.

Technological capital

R&D and innovation

Companies in the transport and storage sector invested 77 million euros in R&D in 2019.
