Production of the 'Transport and Storage' sector: evolution of intermediate consumption and gross value added for the years 2000 to 2021.
The production of the transport and storage sector reached 117,580 million euros in 2020, with an added value of 43,163 million euros.
According to the INE's Central Business Directory, 210,502 companies were registered in the transport and storage sector in 2021, of which 164,512 operated in the road and pipeline transport branch.
Spanish companies in the transport and storage sector invested 308 million euros abroad in 2021. Furthermore, 701 million euros were invested from abroad in Spanish companies in the sector.
The value of imports in 2020 reached 276,925 million euros, the majority of which arrived by sea and road (35 and 55 % respectively). Exports reached 263,628 million euros, the majority of which came by sea and road (31 and 56% respectively).
In tonnes, 227 million tonnes were imported, 73% by sea and 24% by road; and 174 million tonnes were exported, 56% by sea and 41% by road.
In 2021 1,022,600 people were employed in the transport and storage sector, according to the Labour Force Survey. The number of Social Security affiliates in the transport and storage sector reached 959,885 workers.
In 2020, companies in the transport and storage sector achieved a turnover of 100,798.8 million euros, with an output value of 73,450 million euros, according to Structural Business Statistics: Services Sector.
