Macroeconomic aggregates (National Accounts INE)

The production of the transport and storage sector reached 127.190 million euros in 2019, with an added value of 53,094 million euros.

Companies and their activity

According to the INE's Central Business Directory, 196.715 companies were registered in the transport and storage sector in 2019, of which 161,489 operated in the road and pipeline transport branch.

Foreign trade and investment

Inversión exterior

Spanish companies in the transport and storage sector invested 505,4 million euros abroad in 2019. Furthermore, 156,7 million euros were invested from abroad in Spanish companies in the sector.

Foreign trade

The value of imports in 2019 reached 322.436 million euros, the majority of which arrived by sea and road (39 and 52% respectively). Exports reached 290.893 million euros, the majority of which came by sea and road (32 and 53% respectively).

In tonnes, 260 million tonnes were imported, 75% by sea and 21% by road; and 185 million tonnes were exported, 57% by sea and 39% by road.

Employment

In 2019 1.031.100 people were employed in the transport and storage sector, according to the Labour Force Survey. The number of Social Security affiliates in the transport and storage sector reached 959.052 workers.

Business operation and financing

Operating results

In 2018, companies in the transport and storage sector achieved a turnover of 117.149 million euros, with an output value of 89.272 million euros, according to Structural Business Statistics: Services Sector.
